Dive Travel Notes:

Tahiti

Some of the better diving in French Polynesia is in Rangiroa. Big animals there. Since you are in the vicinity might be worth going there if you can. Diving around Bora Bora (don't miss Bloody Mary's restaurant) is mostly in the motu passes and you need to know when the currents are favorable. Probably the same for Moorea. Sorry, been a few years and don't recall names of operators.

Another thought about Bora Bora.  I don't know if your wife is a diver, if not, and maybe even if yes, try the snorkel tour run by Patrick (patrick.bora@mail.pf).  It starts with some traditional reef snorkeling, then does a shark and ray feeding/petting in waist deep water, followed by a beach bbq featuring fresh lobster on the grill.  Great way to spend a morning or afternoon.

I've got 20 or so dives on Mo'orea. I dived with Scuba Piti. At the time they were the only outfit that didn't chum for sharks.

There are four or five operators on the Island. You will most likely want to chose one if the operators that is close to where you are staying (in my case, my bungalow was a stones throw from the dive operator).

If Nitrox is important, research who provides it before you go. When I went only one operator provided it.

If you don't have accommodations yet, and don't mind "roughing it" a bit my aunt has 3 bungalows in the property next to Scuba Piti. They include a kayak I think. I spent many hours kayaking and snorkeling around the area, and there is a popular ray feeding area a few hundred yards away where you can swim with them.

Bring a 3 mil if you can. Everyone was always shivering at the end of the dives, except me.

I had my HID last time. While there was plenty of light at 90', the HID really brought out the colors.

My wife is Tahitian and her mother was a travel agent for a long time so if you have other specific questions you can email me off list and I can see if I can get you some answers.
